Biography
Described as having a voice that is “richly expressive and gleam[ing] at the top” (Opera Magazine) and “show-stopping” (The Observer), Henna Mun is a South Korean singer, born in Japan and raised in Canada. She is the recent winner of the 2024 John Christie Award at the Glyndebourne Festival and the first-place winner of the 2025 Clonter Award. Henna is thrilled to be joining the English National Opera this season as their Harewood Artist.
Recent engagements include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (Royal College of Music), Michal in Saul (cover - Glyndebourne Festival), Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare (cover – Glyndebourne Festival), Gianetta in The Elixir of Love (cover – English National Opera), Hanna in The Merry Widow, Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld, Maturina in Don Giovanni Tenorio, La Principessa in La bella dormente nel bosco, Jenny Lind in Barnum’s Bird (Royal College of Music), and Ilia in Idomeneo (Brunswick Vocal Arts).
She originated the role of Phyllis in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s The Railway Children (world premiere, Glyndebourne) and made her principal debut at ENO as Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore (2025/26). She returns to Glyndebourne as Nympha in L’Orfeo (Summer 2026) and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Autumn 2026). She was a Glyndebourne Jerwood Young Artist in 2024. She was also a member of the Verbier Atelier Lyrique in 2024.
Henna was a guest artist at the 2024 BST Hyde Park concert in London with Maestro Andrea Bocelli. She also performed with Sumi Jo at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre with the Tokyo Universal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022.
Henna completed her time at the International Opera Studio at the Royal College of Music in London this year. She is currently under the tutelage of Mary Nelson. She completed her master’s degree at the RCM and her bachelor’s degree at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, under the tutelage of Dominique Labelle.
